The university marshal oversees USC’s Commencement ceremonies and New Student Convocations – longstanding traditions that commemorate the beginning and the culmination of a student’s academic career. In addition, the university marshal assists in coordinating the recognition of undergraduates, graduate and professional students, and faculty at Academic Honors Convocation.
The current university marshal is Donal T. Manahan, Ph.D., professor of biological sciences at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He has more than 35 years of experience teaching and mentoring students as a member of USC’s faculty. His research expertise is the biology of organism-environment interactions. Dr. Manahan has served as university marshal since 2016.
